Strictly Come Dancing took an awkward turn on Saturday night as interrupted Craig Revel Horwood live on air.

During the latest instalment, Wynne Evans and pro dancer Katya Jones danced the cha cha to Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag from Mrs Doubtfire with Wynne, 52, transforming into the iconic character played by Robin Williams.

During the judges' feedback, Craig didn't hold back as he said: "I have to say the hip action really let this whole number down, it was really wooden and stiff!" to which Shirley quickly interrupted with: "No, not at all, not at all!"

Responding to Shirley, Craig reiterated his point: "It was wooden and stiff!" with Shirley interrupting again: "I didn't think it was wooden" to which Craig insisted: "Well, it was..."

Despite his comments, after the heated discussion Craig went on to award the pair a reasonable seven out of 10 marks, with Shirley awarding them eight. In total Wynne and Katya achieved an overall score of 30.

Earlier in the evening, the show opened with the professional dancers transformed into Minions from the Despicable Me franchise with Kai Widdrington dressed as Gru, the grouchy former supervillain and protagonist of the film series, while the other professionals donned yellow bodysuits to mimic the tiny henchmen.

Yet viewers were left confused by the opening dance as they took to , now X, to share their thoughts. One person said: "Not at all keen on the minions opening number. There didn't seem to be much actual dancing going on #Strictly", a different account put: "What a bonkers opening number! #Strictly", another wrote: "It's movie week on #Strictly and that pro number to Minions was not the one" while a different account added: "That opening routine was…. #Strictly."

However, others loved it as one person said: "Loved the opening dance tonight #Strictly #scd", a different account put: "Loved that opening dance #Strictly", another said: "Best. Opening dance. Everrrrr!#Strictly" while a different viewer added: "OMG THIS DESPICABLE ME OPENING PERFORMANCE YASSSS #strictly."

During the episode, the professional dancers and their celebrity partners performed movie-inspired routines complete with costumes.

However, sadly, DIY SOS star Nick Knowles and his dance partner Luba Mushtuk were due to perform the Charleston to Rain On The Roof from Paddington 2 before Nick pulled out on Friday due to an injury. As per the Strictly rules, the pair will "receive a bye" through to next week’s show in the hope he has recovered.

It comes as last weekend Olympian Tom Dean and his dance partner Nadiya Bychkova became the first pair to leave the competition.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One.
