Brentford boss Thomas Frank sends message to Erik ten Hag ahead of Man Utd audition

Thomas Frank has insisted he is very happy at amid talk of interest, but hasn't closed the door on an eventual exit.

Frank has been in charge in West London since 2018, when predecessor Dean Smith left for Aston Villa. In that time he has led the Bees to promotion to the and kept them there for what is now a fourth top-flight season.

Manchester United's higher-ups are with the work the Dane has done so far, with questions remaining over Erik ten Hag's future. Ten Hag has remained in his post despite United recording their worst ever Premier League start, and ahead of the international break.

As it happens, United's very next game sees them host Brentford in the Premier League. Speaking in the lead-up to the game, which some have dubbed an audition for the visiting boss, Frank has opened up on his future.

Speaking to , Frank was quizzed on that the Brentford boss moving into a top managerial job was "just a question of time". "I've said many times I'm very happy at Brentford," Frank began.

"Who knows what will happen in the future. Maybe I stay here for many years. I'm open, maybe something happens. But first and foremost, very happy, just working very hard every day to make the club better."

When pushed further on his reference to the future, he said: "That's because it's very difficult to predict the future. Who knows what will happen. How many coaches have been at the same club more than six years? Very few."

United left it late to clinch a comeback win against Frank's Brentford in the corresponding fixture in October 2023. Mathias Jensen scored in the first half for the visitors and it was still 1-0 going into stoppage-time, only for Scott McTominay to score twice to hand victory to Ten Hag's team.

McTominay left for Napoli over the summer in one of a number of senior exits, while Ten Hag is without other senior stars through injury. Centre-backs Leny Yoro and are absent, as are left-backs and Tyrell Malacia, while after an injury scare on international duty.

Ten Hag's team are winless in five matches, failing to score in three of those games. However, he appeared more confident over his future following a goalless draw at Villa Park last time out. Thomas Tuchel, one of the managers on the radar of United's higher-ups over the summer as they considered a managerial change, has since agreed to take charge of the England men's national team from January.
