Jurgen Klopp 'targets Barcelona duo' as first Red Bull signings since accepting new role

Jurgen Klopp has set his sights on young Barcelona duo Aleix Garrido and Noah Darvich as he prepares to start .

Klopp in the New Year, overseeing their stable of clubs which includes RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg and the New York Red Bulls.

While not involved in the clubs' day-to-day operations, and support individual sporting directors in advancing the Red Bull philosophy. He will also aid Red Bull's global scouting team, handing him control of transfers.

While he still has another two months to relax, Klopp is already preparing to get started. That has seen the German draw up a list of potential targets for the January transfer window.

According to , Klopp is monitoring several youngsters at Barca. Top of the list are Garrido and Darvich, who have both impressed for Barca's reserve Atletic team in Spain's third tier.

Garrido made his Barca senior debut in January 2023, but has not appeared for the first-team since then. Darvich meanwhile has appeared regularly for Atletic this season, as well as captaining Germany's Under-19 side, though he is yet to make his senior debut.

Klopp has already outlined his desire to improve the quality of players at Red Bull's clubs. The German is also keen to help develop those players and continue to drive the clubs towards success.

“After almost 25 years on the sideline, I could not be more excited to get involved in a project like this,” he said after taking the job. “The role may have changed but my passion for football and the people who make the game what it is has not.

“By joining Red Bull at a global level, I want to develop, improve and support the incredible football talent that we have at our disposal. There are many ways that we can do this from using the elite knowledge and experience that Red Bull possesses to learning from other sports and other industries.

“Together we can discover what is possible. I see my role primarily as a mentor for the coaches and management of the Red Bull clubs but ultimately I am one part of an organisation that is unique, innovative and forward looking. As I said, this could not excite me more.”

Red Bull's CEO of Corporate Projects and Investments, Oliver Mintzlaff, has hailed the successful signing of Klopp. Mintzlaff believes the former boss can be a 'game-changer'.

“We are very proud of this outstanding and certainly the strongest signing in Red Bull's soccer history,” he said. “Jürgen Klopp is one of the greatest and most influential figures in soccer, with extraordinary skills and charisma.

“In his role as Head of Soccer, he will be a game changer for our involvement in international soccer and its continued development. We are hoping for valuable and decisive impulses in key areas to make the clubs even better, both collectively and individually.”
