Police are searching for two key witnesses who may have been the last to see alive before the star's , according to reports.

Local news outlet Infobae has claimed two women were allegedly with the former star, who was only 31, at the time of his death. Liam fell from the third floor balcony of his hotel room in Bueno Aires in Argentina on Wednesday [October 16].

And it's now been alleged that both women left the Casa Sur Hotel, where Liam was staying, after waiting for him in the hotel lobby. If found, it is believed the two women could help shed some light on the moments before his fatal fall into the hotel's courtyard.

There is nothing to suggest that the women were involved. According to the publication, police found and seized a bottle of whiskey, a lighter, a phone and a notebook from the singer's hotel suite. Since news of his devastating death, pictures have emerged of drug paraphernalia allegedly found in his room which include white powder residue, burnt aluminium foil and a smashed TV screen.

Before prosecutors confirmed on the record they had questioned five people including two women who had been with Liam in the hours before his death for a “reconstruction of his last hours”, she added: “He was with two women in his room where there was access to drugs."

Clarin, which is Argentina's largest newspaper were the first to publish the harrowing pictures. And a report alongside the images read: "Damage and drugs in the hotel room Liam Payne was staying in in Buenos Aires." It has been claimed that police are yet to determine the nature of the substances allegedly found in his room.

Clarin and the other news outlet La Nacion, reportedly confirmed the pictures were taken after Liam was found dead in the hotel grounds. Shortly after his tragic death his family released an incredibly emotional statement about their loss.

It said: "We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts and we'll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul. We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time." Former contestant Katie Waissel, who appeared on the show along with Liam in 2010 also paid tribute to the star.

Taking to X she said: "Liam was kind, with a pure heart, a sharp mind, and the wisdom of an old soul. His warmth and compassion left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His tragic passing not only leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who loved him but also serves as a painful reminder of the systemic neglect that persists in the industry."
