The One Show presenter has brought her seven-year-old son to work after confessing she struggles with "" due to her busy schedule.

The 47-year-old mum-of-three shared a sweet video of her son Teddy having a tour of Broadcasting House, with the youngster holding Alex's hands as she takes him around the iconic building. The clip, shared by the TV star on , also shows Teddy joining Alex in her dressing room, then playing cards and getting his hair brushed as his mum gets ready for the show.

Alex shared the sweet clip on with the caption: "Took Ted to work yesterday. He's been asking for ages to come and I think it's important that he can imagine where I am at night because I'm not there to do bedtime very often. The mum guilt is very real but yesterday was special."

The TV star was praised for taking her son to her workplace and showing him around, as one wrote: "How lovely … I bet he had a brilliant time." Another added: "He had the best day." A third person agreed, saying: "That's a lovely thing to do, he'll remember this day forever!"

One more fan commented: "So reassuring for your children if they know where you are if you can't be with them at bedtime (& even better if they've actually seen for themselves, although obviously this isn't always possible or practical). As adults we know only too well how during those dark, lonely hours of the night when you imagine the rest of the is sleeping your worries & anxieties take on mega proportions. It's the same for children."

Alex shares Teddy and his younger siblings, five-year-old Kit and three-year-old Annie, with her husband Charlie Thomson. The couple married in 2015. Earlier this year, Alex admitted she misses putting her children to bed - but despite having to juggle her job and family life, she wants to stay on the BBC programme for as long as she can.

She said: "I suffer from terrible mum guilt, but that's the nature of my work. All I can do is my best. I feel massive guilt about not being able to put the kids to bed every night. I tell them I'd love to be able to read them a story every night, but my work happens at that time, and I have to work so we can do nice things at weekends. There's no way around it.

"I adore the chaos of family life. Being a mum is the best thing, and the kids are so funny. I think you have to be aware of how fleeting it is, having young kids. I certainly don’t want to wish it away." Alex had an unusual tip for parents trying to get a moment's peace away from the kids – hiding in their cars. She said: "I've been known to drive to car park, wind back the seat, lie down and close my eyes for a while."

In an interview with woman&home in June, Alex also spoke about her future on The One Show. She said: "People ask me what I want to do next. I feel like saying, 'I'm doing what I've always wanted to do. Why would I hanker after another job?' Of course, I've ambitions to do other things, I love making documentaries. But I'll be there [on The One Show] for as long as they'll have me and it will always be my main job."
