Two of the biggest films of the year — War 2 and Coolie are all set to clash at the box office on Independence Day weekend.
Directed by Ayan Mukerji and starring Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr, War 2 also features Kiara Advani and is backed by Yash Raj Films.
On the other hand, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie is predominantly a Tamil mass action entertainer starring Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj and Shruti Haasan in the lead roles with Aamir Khan in a massy cameo.

Sharing his opinion on the biggest box office clash in history, film exhibitor Akshaye Rathie told The Hollywood Reporter India, “Even in the worst-case scenario, you will have a ballistic opening weekend, and that's not a problem at all considering the times we have gone through in the last couple of years.”
Explaining why War 2 is a true pan-Indian film, Rathie stated that this is the first time a major Hindi superstar is starring in a two-hero movie with a major Telugu superstar. He added, “If you had only Jr. NTR and Ram Charan, you would go ballistic in the predominantly Telugu-speaking markets. Or if you had Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff, like in War, beyond a point, you are not making too much of an appeal in the Southern state. That's not the case here.”
Another exhibitor named Vishek Chauhan stated that we are about to witness history being created at the box office once War 2 and Coolie release.

He said, “Every cinema hall across the country that is playing these films will be sold out. There won't be enough seats in those cinemas to accommodate audiences across the country, because of the pandemonium these stars bring. War is a huge franchise film with Jr NTR and Hrithik Roshan with YRF's spy universe tag, and then there is Coolie with Rajinikanth, Lokesh, and Aamir Khan in Hindi. I am hearing that in the US, the advance booking of Coolie is historic, better than even Jailer. It's going to be the biggest box-office weekend in the history of Indian cinema.”
For the unversed, War 2 is a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster War and is the sixth film in YRF Spy Universe that also includes Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan and Tiger 3.
It will be followed by Alpha starring Alia Bhatt, Sharvari and Bobby Deol out on Christmas 2025.
