Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], April 30 (ANI): Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Wednesday accused the BJP-led central government of weakening constitutional institutions. He made the statement during a 'Save Constitution' rally held in Dehradun.
Speaking to ANI, Pilot said the opposition has a responsibility to raise questions on this issue.
"In the last few years, we have seen questions being raised about constitutional institutions. The constitutional bodies that used to be impartial are now being undermined in various ways. As the Opposition, it is our duty to launch a nationwide campaign on this issue. Today, we organised an event in Dehradun," Sachin Pilot said.
He also criticised the Uttarakhand government, saying it has failed to stop growing cases of oppression against women and Dalits.

"In Uttarakhand, there is a 'double-engine' government, and the oppression, especially of women and Dalits, is continuously increasing. The government has no control over this. There is a wind of change here today. Elections will also be held here in one and a half years," he added.
The Congress party had earlier announced the launch of a nationwide 'Save Constitution' campaign from April 25 to May 30.

The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi. The meeting included general secretaries, state in-charges, and leaders of various frontal organisations.
After the meeting, party communication head Jairam Ramesh briefed the media and said the campaign was in line with a resolution passed at the Ahmedabad AICC session.
As part of the campaign, 'Samvidhan Bachao' rallies are being held at the state level from April 25 to April 30, followed by district-level rallies from May 3 to May 10. From May 11 to May 17, rallies will be held across 4,500 assembly segments. From May 20 to May 30, a door-to-door campaign will be conducted to raise awareness about protecting the Constitution.
