It continued to rain in Mumbai on Tuesday for the second straight day following India Meteorological Department's yellow alert for the Maharashtrian city, visuals showed.
After an extended dry spell, Mumbai witnessed the return of rains this week, starting Monday. The yellow alert by Met Department is from September 23 to September 25, forecasting thunderstorms with lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds.
Netizens took to social media site X to share the heavy downpour on Monday causing a 'flash flood' like situation in parts of the city.
For Thane and Palghar, the IMD has issued an orange alert for September 25, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds in isolated areas.
The weather watchdog has also urged stakeholders to make provision for draining out excess water from standing crop fields and fruit orchards to avoid water stagnation in Maharashtra among other states.
As of this season, the IMD's Colaba and Santacruz observatories have recorded total rainfall of 2,308.8 mm and 2,605.4 mm, respectively.
The recent dry spell has resulted in above-normal daytime and nighttime temperatures.
On Monday, the minimum temperatures recorded at the Colaba and Santacruz observatories were 26.0°C and 25.7°C, respectively.
Meanwhile, the water levels in Mumbai's lakes stood at 14.20 lakh million litres, or 98.15% of their total capacity as of Sunday.
