The Border Security Force ( BSF) and Amritsar (Rural) Police on Saturday night foiled a major cross-border smuggling attempt through drone and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition near the border.
Director General of Police, Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, on Sunday said that a joint operation was launched on Saturday following inputs from alert local residents. The operation took place near Chak Bala village, under the jurisdiction of Ajnala police station.
Yadav stated that the BSF and police team recovered a consignment from agricultural fields, which included two .30 calibre pistols with four magazines, 30 live cartridges, two hand grenades, two level detonators, a remote control device with a charger, a command mechanism, eight batteries, a black box, and 972 grams of RDX.
A case was registered under the Explosive Substances Act, Arms Act, and Aircraft Act. Investigations are underway to uncover the network behind the smuggling attempt and identify the individuals involved, said Yadav
