Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped out together in New York City on April 23 for the TIME100 Summit , where the Duchess of Sussex was a featured speaker. Dressed in a suit, Meghan appeared poised and reflective as she addressed a packed audience, offering rare personal insight into the challenges she’s faced in launching several high-profile projects simultaneously.
The public appearance comes amid a flurry of activity for the 43-year-old mother of two, who has had a whirlwind year. From the premiere of her Netflix show With Love, Meghan, to launching her lifestyle brand As Ever, and more recently releasing her new podcast Confessions of a Female Founder through Lemonada Media, Meghan has had her hands full.
Speaking candidly at the event, Meghan shared that the past 18 months have been filled with “incredibly busy and ambitious” efforts as she and her team worked to launch three separate projects at once.
“There were three projects that we were launching really at the same time,” she said. “Then you see it all come to life and try to give yourself the space and the grace to make mistakes, to know you're not doing it right every day.”
She noted that launching the Netflix series came with some hesitation. “I didn’t want a reality show,” Meghan explained, describing the challenge of creating a cooking and crafting program that felt fresh and authentic. “How are we going to do a cooking show or a crafting show that doesn't feel like a typical stand and stir?”
Despite her packed schedule, Meghan emphasised that parenting continues to shape her perspective. “Something that is seemingly so big somehow becomes so microscopic in importance compared to what's happening with my children,” she said.
Mistakes, scrutiny, and staying grounded for her kids
Meghan’s public remarks come amid mounting criticism and reported setbacks across her ventures. With Love, Meghan received lackluster reviews, her As Ever brand faced customer complaints over cancelled orders, and her podcast has struggled to secure high-profile guests—despite reportedly reaching out to the likes of Beyoncé and Taylor Swift.
Still, Meghan acknowledged the learning curve that comes with trying something new. “I try to model that behaviour,” she said. “It starts with whatever’s going on internally. I am able to just tune out whatever that noise is, really not give it any credence.”
Asked how she handles intense public scrutiny, Meghan said she’s made a “very conscious effort” to establish boundaries to protect her well-being and mental health. “It’s important to be a role model, to raise a very strong and confident young woman,” she said. “But also having a son, I think that is just as paramount... for young men to be raised with a confidence and sense of self that is going to empower the women around them too.”
“Never been happier”
Despite the challenges, Meghan told the audience she’s never been happier. “To have a partner and husband who is so supportive, and to have healthy kids who are so joyful in the freeness of their life and the safety of the life we created for them,” she said. “That’s what really matters.”
