Chhath Puja Third Day 2025 Today, Sandhya Arghya Timing: Today is the third day of Chhath Puja, and offerings will be made to the setting sun. Chhath Puja is dedicated to the worship of Chhathi Maiya and Suryadev. This festival is a joint worship of Lord Surya, the giver of life, light, and energy, and Chhathi Maiya, the goddess of nature and motherhood.
Chhathi Maiya is considered the sister of Goddess Katyayani (a form of Goddess Parvati) and Suryadev. Therefore, this fast became known as Surya-Shashthi or Chhathi Devi. On the third day of Chhath Puja, i.e., the day of Sandhya Arghya, devotees offer water to the setting sun. Arghya is offered to the setting sun only during Chhath Puja. This time, Sandhya Arghya will be offered during Ravi Yoga, further enhancing its significance, as this yoga is dedicated to Suryadev. Let's learn how to offer arghya to the Sun on the third day of Chhath Puja...
Significance of the Third Day of Chhath Puja
On the third day of Chhath Puja, arghya is offered to the setting Sun. In Hinduism, the Sun is considered a deity, the giver of life, energy, and health. It is believed that Lord Bhaskar is with his second wife, Pratyusha, in the evening. Pratyusha is considered the goddess of the evening. Mothers offer arghya to the Sun and Pratyusha. On the third day, as the Sun begins to set, devotees thank Him for providing light, energy, and life throughout the day. This arghya is a symbol of gratitude. While offering arghya, mothers pray for the long life of their children and a family filled with happiness, peace, and prosperity.
Reciting the Surya Kavach
On the third day of Chhath Puja, the Surya Kavach is recited before offering arghya to the Sun. Reciting the Surya Kavach during Chhath Puja is believed to bring prosperity to health, career, wealth, and children. Reciting it daily provides relief from eye, skin, heart, and bone-related ailments. It also increases self-confidence and strengthens willpower.
Offering to the Setting Sun in Three Auspicious Yogas
Offering to the Setting Sun in Ravi Yoga during Chhath Puja will be done. Mars will transit into Scorpio today, creating Ruchak Raja Yoga. Jupiter will also be in the Moon's sign, creating Hans Raja Yoga. Thus, three Raja Yogas will be in effect today, and offerings will be made at that time.
Evening Arghya Time - 5:40 PM
Correct Method of Offering Arghya to the Setting Sun
Offering is always done facing west (as the sun is setting). Fill a copper pot with water and add flowers, rice grains, roli, jaggery, and milk. Hold the pot up with both hands and pour the water towards the sun. The water should fall slowly so that the sun's rays are reflected through the water. This process is called Surya Darshan. While offering water, chant the mantra Om Adityaya Namah or Om Bhaskaraya Namah. After offering water, fold your hands and pray: Jai Chhathi Maiya, Jai Surya Bhagwan. Please bless me with happiness, health, and prosperity for my children.
