Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Exposing the police claims of tight security in the city ahead of Prime Minister’s visit, unidentified bike-borne miscreants looted a purse containing cash and jewellery worth around ₹1 lakh from a couple travelling in an auto-rickshaw under Shahpura police station on Wednesday night.
Efforts are underway to identify and arrest the miscreants, police said. This was the second incident of loot on the day as unidentified miscreants had stabbed a collection agent of a private company and looted cash from him in Gautam Nagar area on Wednesday afternoon.
Police said that Jharkhand resident Amin Khan (51), an Indian Oil Corporation employee, used to live in Bhopal some years back. Amin Khan and his wife had come to the city on Wednesday and were staying at IOC’s guest house.
In the afternoon, Khan and his wife collected their jewellery from their bank locker. On Wednesday night, they were returning to the guest house in an auto-rickshaw. They were near Rohit Nagar when three miscreants on a bike came from behind and snatched the purse from the hands of Khan’s wife.
Police reached the spot after receiving information and launched a hunt for the miscreants but to no avail. The couple told police that the purse contained ₹5000 in cash, a gold necklace and a mobile.
In-charge at Shahpura police station Lokendra Singh Thakur said CCTV footage were being scanned to identify the miscreants.
