It may sound a bit strange, but your blood group tells you which diseases can affect you and which cannot.
In the modern lifestyle, dangerous diseases like cancer are rapidly catching people in their grip. This is the reason why people are in a very alert mode regarding their lives. They get themselves checked again and again so that they do not fall prey to any serious disease, but do you know that your blood type increases your risk of getting stomach cancer? Let us know about it in detail.
How is blood group decided?

People do not know about their blood group until they donate blood or undergo surgery. Actually, everyone inherits their blood group from their parents. Most people in the world fall into the four blood groups A, B, AB or O. These letters represent the combination of sugar and protein (antigen) on the surface of your red blood cells. They are also connected to antibodies, which are present in our blood plasma. Apart from this, positive and negative blood type shows which Rh factor antigen your blood has.
Can blood group determine the risk of disease?
It may sound a bit strange, but your blood group determines which diseases can affect you and which cannot. Actually, antigens and antibodies play an important role in keeping your immune system healthy. According to a report published by BMC Cancer in 2019, people with blood group A or AB are at a higher risk of getting stomach cancer.
The frightening thing came out in the study
The study revealed that people with blood group A had a 13 percent higher risk of stomach cancer than people with blood group O. Whereas, this risk was found to be 18 percent higher in people with blood group AB. Researchers also checked the results of 40 other studies, which found a similar pattern. People with type A had a 19 percent higher risk of cancer, while people with type AB had a 9 percent higher risk of stomach cancer.
What is the connection between blood group and stomach cancer?
To be clear, the study did not say that having blood group A or AB can directly cause cancer. It is worth noting that people with other blood groups also get stomach cancer, but there are some biological differences between blood groups, due to which the risk of stomach cancer increases. These differences include the way the body handles inflammation, communication between cells and the immune system's detection of cancer cells, etc. For example, people with blood group A may produce less stomach acid than people with blood group O.
The reason for cancer told in research
Old reports were also cited in the research, which stated that people with A blood group are more likely to be infected with Helicobacter pylori. Helicobacter pylori is a type of bacteria that is connected to stomach cancer. This bacteria is very dangerous. The study observed that people with A blood group had a higher risk of stomach cancer, whether they are infected with Helicobacter pylori or not. At the same time, people with AB blood group are more likely to get stomach cancer when they are infected with Helicobacter pylori.
Which people get stomach cancer quickly?
According to the National Cancer Institute, stomach cancer is not very common in America, but it is the fifth most common cancer worldwide. Cases of stomach cancer are more common in Asia, Eastern Europe and parts of South America. At the same time, men are almost twice as likely to get this dangerous disease. The risk of stomach cancer increases with age, but it is worth noting that its cases are increasing rapidly among young Hispanic women. The risk of stomach cancer can also increase due to your diet, family history and health conditions like obesity.
