Cam Smith has set his sights on winning more major titles, with the LIV Golf star admitting he is still keen to prove he can compete against some of the best golfers on the planet.
A little over two years ago, Smith became a major champion, clinching the 150th Open Championship at St Andrews after pipping Rory McIlroy to the Claret Jug. At the time the Australian was one the most in-form golfers on the planet, sitting No. 2 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).
Just weeks later however, the Champion Golfer of The Year left the sport in shock, opting to leave the PGA Tour to sign for the then start-up league at LIV, signing a mega-money contract with fellow Australian Greg Norman.

Since then, Smith has failed to make his mark on the major stage, and has unsurprisingly drifted down the world rankings, with LIV continuing to host events without OWGR points on offer. Two years on from making the leap to the breakaway league, Smith is keen to show he can still compete at the very top.
"I want to prove that I'm still a great player and that I can win all the big tournaments and the majors," Smith told Golf Monthly. "It was nice to see Brooks [Koepka] take one for the team at last year's PGA [Championship] and get that first major for a LIV player.
"Bryson [DeChambeau] continued that as well [at the US Open],” the former Open champion continued. “Hopefully we can get into a routine here where we can all knock off a few more majors in the future.” Whilst he is yet to win the famous green jacket, Smith's record at the Masters is an impressive one.

In April he put in his best major showing of the season at Augusta National, finishing the week in a tie for sixth to secure his fourth top-10 in his last five trips to the iconic Georgia course. On the LIV setup, Smith's form has been fairly solid too, but he has been unable to add to the three individual victories he earned in 2022 and 2023 this season.
He has enjoyed success with his Ripper GC team though, no more so then when competing in front of a home crowd at LIV Adelaide in April. After playing their way into a first-ever team playoff on the breakaway circuit, Smith led his team to victory over Stinger GC to the delight of the raucous Aussie crowd watching on.
Back-to-back victories then followed in Singapore a week later, and Smith and co have the chance to add the biggest LIV prize at all to their collection at this week's Team Championship. The all-Australian team's week will start slightly later than most in Dallas, having been given a bye into the semi-finals of the event having finished third in the year-long standings behind Jon Rahm's Legion XIII and Bryson DeChambeau's Crushers GC.
