Legendary jockey was raced to hospital after a meeting he featured in descended into a bitter fight with a rival. Kyle Wilson-Taylor was also in the race in Doomben in and was involved in what stewards describe as a ‘physical altercation’ with Callow.
And stewards have confirmed that an urgent investigation has been launched into the circumstances of the fight which allegedly took place on Wednesday. An official report read: "The start of this race was delayed approximately five minutes when rider N. Callow, who had weighed out for this event, was then subsequently stood down after being examined by the club doctor and found to be unfit to fulfil his remaining engagements."
Kim Kelly, Deputy Commissioner for the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission, added: "I can confirm that a stewards’ enquiry has been opened into a physical altercation between two riders at the Doomben race meeting.
"A considerable body of evidence has been taken and the matter was adjourned to a date to be fixed to allow a rider who was taken from the course for medical treatment to give evidence."
At this stage, it is not clear what the trigger behind the angry showdown was, with both riders awaiting news on punishments. That will likely not come until after a thorough investigation is concluded.

As per , Wilson-Taylor, 25, insists he did not start the fight. It is reported that he is fit enough to continue riding pending the outcome of the investigation.
Callow, 49, however did not give any evidence having been stood down for 12 days just to concussion protocols in what is another bizarre chapter in his career. The legendary Group 1 rider has won more than £22million across a glittering career amid a series of bans.
He has also been forced to become an Uber driver during a previous break from racing. As quoted by 9now in 2023, he said: "Well everyone's gotta make a dollar and I like being busy, why not drive Uber?

"I was out of work for three months and I thought why not give Uber a try? So I did it and I didn't know whether I'd like it, but I love it. You meet some interesting people and I really enjoy doing it."
Callow, nicknamed ‘The King’, also became a groundsman at the Gold Coast Turf Club racecourse in Queensland during another of his breaks from riding. He will likely provide evidence for the ongoing investigation once recovered.
