Recently, a heart-wrenching incident took place in Faridabad, Haryana. Three members of the same family died tragically when an AC caught fire at night in the city's Green Field Colony. The deceased include husband-wife and their daughter. While the son is still admitted in the hospital. This incident has forced everyone to think - can the ACs installed in our homes also be fatal?
Why does AC explode? What do experts say
Such accidents are not new. In hot and humid weather, AC is run continuously for a long time, which puts a lot of pressure on its compressor. Experts say that a continuously running compressor can heat up and overheat, which increases the chances of fire or blast in the AC.
The risk of short circuits is also real
At night, when we are in deep sleep and the AC is on continuously, the chances of a short circuit are the highest. Many times people do not even realize and accidents happen. Therefore, it is important that you set a timer in the AC, so that it turns off automatically after a few hours and the compressor gets time to cool down.

By following these safety tips you can avoid a major accident
Use a timer
Instead of running the AC all night, set a timer in it. This feature is available in most ACs. This will automatically turn off the AC after a few hours and the machine will not overheat.
Clean the filter every 10-15 days
Many people use AC throughout the summer but do not clean the filter. A dirty filter reduces the cooling of the AC and puts more pressure on the machine. Therefore, clean it every 10-15 days.

Get complete servicing done at least once a year
It is very important to get the AC serviced. This lets you know whether all the parts inside the machine are working properly or not. Especially it is important to check the wiring, plug, switch board etc. so that the chances of short circuit are reduced.
Do not overuse turbo mode
Turbo mode does cool the AC quickly but this mode puts more pressure on the AC. If you run it in turbo mode daily or for a long time, it can be dangerous.
Cleaning of the outer unit is also important
If you have a split AC in your house, cleaning not just the indoor unit but also the outer unit is very important. Dust and dirt accumulate on the outer unit, which makes it hotter. You can sprinkle water on it from time to time or wipe it with a wet cloth – but keep in mind that the AC should be turned off while doing this.
Be cautious if you have an old AC
If your AC is more than 5 years old, do not be careless in its servicing and maintenance. Old machines overheat quickly and there is a high risk of blast in them.
A tragic incident like the one in Faridabad can happen in any home if we do not use our AC properly. This accident warns us that we should start taking care of our household electronics in time. Not just for comfort, but also for safety.
If you want to keep your family safe, then follow the above tips from today itself
