BANGALORE: OBITUARY- TPG Nambiar, the founder of BPL Limited, passed away at the age of 94. He died at his home in Bengaluru, succumbing to age-related health issues. Nambiar played a pivotal role in making BPL a household name, particularly among the Malayali community. He was also the father-in-law of former Union Minister and businessman Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
Family sources confirmed that Nambiar had been unwell for some time and passed away in the morning.
Mourning his loss, former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa expressed his condolences on social media, stating, "Saddened by the passing of Shri TPG Nambiar, founder of the iconic BPL brand, who has been a close acquaintance for a long time. Shri Nambiar's enormous contributions and legacy will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his loved ones."
Nambiar established British Physical Laboratories Private Limited (BPL) in 1963. The company initially focused on manufacturing defense equipment before branching out into electronics. By the 1990s, BPL had emerged as a major player in India's electronics industry, dominating the TV and phone markets and ranking among the country’s top ten companies. BPL is credited with revolutionizing the mobile manufacturing sector, leaving a lasting impact on the industry.
