UK still using a burgundy are being urged to its expiry date, as they're made aware of new increased renewal fees that came into effect last week. The 10-year passport rule requires that your passport must be issued less than 10 years before your travel date and remain valid for at least three months after leaving the EU. This applies to all passports issued before September 2018 that won't be accepted for EU travel once they approach the 10-year limit.
Passport renewal fees increased last Thursday, April 10, with online applications rising to £94.50 for adults and £61.50 for children, while expedited services now cost £222 - a 25% price increase over the last two years. The Home Office previously wrote: "The new fees will help the Home Office to continue to move towards a system that meets its costs through those who use it, reducing reliance on funding from general taxation."
"The government does not make any profit from the cost of passport applications.
"The fees contribute to the cost of processing passport applications, consular support overseas, including for lost or stolen passports, and the cost of processing British citizens at UK borders."
Postal applications have also seen an increase from £100 to £107 for adults and from £69 to £74 for children.
For those applying from overseas, the fee for a standard online application has gone up to £108 for adults and from £65.50 to £70 for children.
Standard paper passport applications made from overseas has also risen from £112.50 to £120.50 for adults, and from £77 to £82.50 for children.
Make sure to renew your passport well in advance and check entry requirements for each destination before you travel.
