Nike are being pressured by supporters after the basketball star sported a vibrant pair of custom sneakers. Clark, 22, has in the
Her debut season as the No.1 overall pick for the Indiana Fever in the first round of the playoffs. The Iowa native is now enjoying an extended break and was recently seen with her team-mate Lexie Hull.
While she was blasting some balls up the fairway, Clark wore a funky pair of colourful Nike Infinity Tour 2 golf shoes. Since her whopping includes the promise of her own pair of basketball shoes, Clark's massive fan base have started pressuring Nike to release them as fast as possible.
When photos of Clark's shoes emerged on social media, one fan tagged Nike and demanded "Shoes now!" Another fan commented: "Golf shoes [handshake emoji] basketball shoes. U already know what to do" while also tagging Nike on twitter.
One fan even said the iconic sports brand would make millions if they sold the shoes when they said: "You REALLY wanna make bank, @Nike? In addition to the Caitlin 1s, drop some Caitlin Golfs as well for good measure. You'll thank me later."
Another admirer even accused Nike of teasing her fans with these custom shoes, saying: "CC [Caitlin Clark] custom golf shoes.... they're just trying all the different ways to tease us about her shoe drop. Can Nike stop fumbling."
Clark has proven to be a game-changer for the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). WNBA legend Sue Bird encapsulated the 'Caitlin Clark effect' by referring to the record-breaking number of viewers who have tuned into the division since Clark joined.
Speaking on her 'A Touch More' podcast, Bird said: "Viewership numbers with Caitlin Clark are astronomical. She brings in all the things.
"We know this, we've said this. Yes, the games that she's not playing have lower viewership."
While referring to the other play-off games which have not featured Clark, Bird added: "The WNBA playoffs, where Caitlin's obviously not in it because her team lost are still breaking records from previous WNBA years. These numbers are still really high and still really meaningful.
"Yet, some people continue to flip that... Nobody ever said Caitlin wasn't gonna be a marketing gem, a unicorn." Clark, meanwhile, is set to switch sports next month when she takes part in The Annika golf pro-am.
, Clark said: "I love golf so the opportunity to play in the Pro-Am for a tournament with a legend like Annika Sorenstam's name on it is so exciting. I'm looking forward to seeing all the LPGA players on the driving range, being part of the Women's Leadership Summit, and, of course, teeing it up in the pro-am with Annika."
