F1 pundit and Italian GT driver Vicky Piria has played down suggestions that and will be booed back in their homeland. Formula One travels to Italy this weekend for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, where hordes of Ferrari fans are expected to be in attendance.
It has been an underwhelming first quarter of the season for the Prancing Horse, however, who were expecting to challenge for drivers' and constructors' titles when Hamilton made the switch from . But Ferrari are without a win in the opening six races, while their worst display of the year came last time out at the Miami GP. Hamilton and were a minute behind winner and they finished in sixth and seventh respectively.
They head to Imola in disarray after , but Piria does not think that fans will voice their disappointment in the form of boos at the track, after the veteran driver .
"At the end of the day, the passion is so strong that I don't believe people will be booing Ferrari," Piria, an Italian-British former W Series driver, told . "People will be definitely cheering Ferrari and hoping for something to happen.
"The season is still long. If we think about it, it was around this time of year in 2024 that really changed the game, in a way, so they definitely think that something is still possible.
"There will be frustration. I mean, Italians are known to be really emotional. I'm the first one to be really emotional. So that definitely will come up.
"If you think about Lewis Hamilton's sprint win in China, his podium in Miami. It takes a lot of time for the tifosi to really get angry and disappointed, but it does not take a lot of time for them to regain their hopes again.
"And I really think that if these things don't work, it just takes one race for them to really go ahead and really celebrate."
Hamilton has already taken action to correct his and Ferrari's poor form. The seven-time world champion has unfollowed every account he previously followed on Instagram, including Ferrari and his dog, Roscoe.
The Brit continues to post on the platform, but has made clear that his focus is solely on the team as he tries to cut out any distractions before travelling to Imola.
He has yet to claim even a podium while in red, though he did win the sprint race in China. He will be desperate to put a smile on the faces of Ferrari fans who flock to northern Italy this weekend.
