's life is set to be honoured in a grand remembrance service at the end of this week, nearly a month after the former One Direction star's tragic death in Argentina.
The 31-year-old singer passed away on October 16 after a fall from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo hotel in Buenos Aires.
He had been in Argentina with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, for a holiday and to attend the concert of his former bandmate, Niall Horan. Cassidy reportedly left Argentina just days before his death.
The Public Prosecutor's Office in Buenos Aires is continuing to investigate Payne's death, which has been classified as "an inconclusive death."
An initial post-mortem examination determined that Payne died instantly due to multiple traumas, with "internal and external haemorrhage." While some reports remain unconfirmed, it has been alleged that a partial autopsy revealed a cocktail of drugs in Payne's system.
These included designer narcotic pink cocaine containing MDMA, ketamine, and methamphetamine, as well as crack cocaine and benzodiazepine.
Following the tragic accident, Payne's body was released to his family over the weekend, and his father, Geoff, flew to Argentina to assist with the repatriation process.
On Monday, November 4, Payne's body was returned to the UK. It had been reported that Geoff Payne had a meeting with prosecution chief Andres Madrea, who informed him that he could take his son's body back to the UK two weeks after the incident.
Now, sources close to the Payne family have revealed that a "lavish service of remembrance" is being planned, with the event expected to take place at a grand cathedral.
While the exact location remains undisclosed, it is believed that the ceremony will be held in Payne's hometown of Wolverhampton.
The service is anticipated to be a fitting tribute to Payne's life, allowing family, friends, and fans to say a final farewell to the beloved musician.
As the family prepares for the service, it remains unclear whether Payne's former bandmates will attend. Payne's untimely passing has left fans devastated, and many have taken to social media to express their grief.
Thousands of supporters have also signed a petition urging for a permanent tribute to Payne in Wolverhampton, with calls for a "structure or mural" to be erected in the West Midlands city in his honor.
Payne's journey to fame began with his role in One Direction, the globally successful boy band formed on The X Factor. His music career, both with the band and as a solo artist, has left an enduring impact on fans worldwide.
