There have been some seriously underrated Westerns over the last decade from Hostiles to Hell or High Water.
Another critically acclaimed movie set in the US frontier that barely anyone saw upon release is 2015's Slow West.
This revisionist Western written and directed by John Maclean was his directorial debut.
The film stars a young Kodi Smit-McPhee as a Scotsman searching for his lost love in the American West, travelling with a bounty hunter played by Michael Fassbender.
Shot in New Zealand with a Colorado setting, Slow West also features flashbacks to the Scottish Highlands filmed in Wester Ross.
This Western has 92 per cent positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes with a critical consensus reading: "Slow West serves as an impressive calling card for first-time writer-director John M Maclean-and offers an inventive treat for fans of the Western."
Slow West is streaming now for free on Plex.
