Fiona Bruce announced the news of Andrew Windsor's Prince title being removed during a live recording of Question Time on Thursday (October 30). It had previously been agreed that he would stop using the Duke of York title, but further discussion has resulted in the removal of his Prince title and an agreement that he will move out of his Royal residency.
On Thursday, Fiona announced the news to the live audience as she said: "I'm going to stop the recording, because we have a breaking story which we should respond to. Prince Andrew. The King has initiated a process, we're going to discuss this.Prince Andrew will no longer be Prince Andrew." The audience erupted into applause and gasps as shocked faces flooded the auditorium.
Fiona continued: "He will be Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. He will surrender the lease to his home, and he will find alternative, private accommodation." Although Andrew denies the accusations made against him, Buckingham Palace believe there have been "serious lapses of judgement".
The Buckingham Palace statement reflected Andrew's denial, and it read: "These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him.
"Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse."
Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice will keep their titles as they are the daughters of the son of a Sovereign.
Andrew will now be heading to Sandringham, which is where the Royal Family traditionally celebrates Christmas, though it's already been stated that he will not be invited to join. His friendship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein led to his downfall, with the monarchy facing increasing pressure to resolve the issues around Andrew.
Despite his royal titles being removed, he still remains eighth in line to the throne.Buckingham Palace said in a statement: "His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the style, titles and honours of Prince Andrew.
"Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence. Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation.
