One The Chase player admitted that he went onto the ITV quiz show with a plan. Bradley Walsh hosted as four fresh contestants pitted their wits against general knowledge experts, the Chasers.
Friday evening's episode saw Joe from Cardiff, Andrea from Wrexham, Ethan from Leigh-on-Sea and Caroline from Buckinghamshire hoping that they could beat Chaser Jenny 'The Vixen' Ryan and leave with thousands of pounds in their pockets. Up first was Joe, as he shared that he had a few tricks up his sleeve. The player secured a respectable £4,000 in the cash builder round and then it was time for him to accept an offer from the Chaser. Jenny offered three payments - £1,000, £4,000 or £40,000. Conferring with his teammates, the general consensus was for him to go for the middle offer, with them saying that while the high offer was very tempting they "really wanted him back" for the final chase.
That was when Joe revealed that he had a plan prepared anyway. "I did have a bit of a plan in my mind which my boyfriend helped me cook up," he admitted.
Bradley halted the show as he said: "Hang on here a minute! Partners are sticking their noses in." He asked the contestant what his partner's name was, as Joe shared that it was Gavin, before asking more about the plan.
The player shared: "I'll go for that £4,000." Jenny then added her own thoughts saying that it was a "sensible" choice.
Joe went on to play the head-to-head round and made it back to the table, adding the £4,000 to the prize pot with ease. However, fans at home, while delighted with his success, were not too pleased with his so-called "plan".
On X/Twitter, one fan sarcastically fumed: "Sorry, what was the deep and well thought out plan? Go middle. Groundbreaking #TheChase."
Another person echoed: "Taking the middle offer is hardly a plan needing to be cooked up by two people #thechase."
However, one more person seemed somewhat impressed as they wrote: "Well done Joe. Steady cash building often makes a winning team. And it's Friday!"
