If you don't know where to start on gardening in September, don't panic. Michael - dubbed as the 'Mediterranean Gardener' on TikTok has unleashed a wealth of advice for green-fingered enthusiasts looking to get stuck in this month.

"Autumn is the perfect time to start lawn maintenance again," he said to his 250k followers. "You want to set your mowing height to around 4cm to allow the grass to get ready for winter. Whether you do it manually or mechanically, it's also the perfect time to scarify, aerate and overseed your lawn.

"But remember to switch from a summer lawn feed to an autumn feed." Aside from this, Michael also insists that it's especially important to prune hedges and take cuttings from your flowers this month - especially hydrangeas, roses, fuchsias and salvias.

Planting these cuttings is one of the cheapest ways to create new beautiful plants in your garden, while propagating 'tender plants' like fuchsias that may struggle in the winter, according to LoveTheGarden.

Micheael went on: "Check roses for black spots and remove anything that's affected. Lift, divide and replant congested clumps of perennials once they finish flowering. Finish summer pruning fruit trees to encourage fruiting next year. And you can now plant prepared hyacinth bulbs in pots to be ready for Christmas."

The gardening guru's advice also comes as the British horticulturalist Monty Don recently wrote a blog on September gardening jobs. Remarkably, he suggested that your actions over the coming weeks can significantly impact what blossoms in the Spring.

"Camellias, Azaleas and rhododendrons form their flower buds in late Summer and Autumn," he explained. "If they are too dry the buds will not form properly and those that are made quite often subsequently drop off in the Spring before flowering as a result of dehydration the previous Autumn."
