Ballot Drop Boxes Set On Fire In Oregon And Washington, Videos Emerge| Watch

As early voting began in most states, instances of ballot drop boxes being set on fire were reported from Vancouver, Washington and Portland, Oregon, on Monday. Videos surfaced on social media showing firefighters battling blaze at a ballot drop box, while another image of a singed ballot drop box also surfaced. Here are the videos and photos:

Hundreds of ballots were destroyed in the fires, the Associated Press reported.The authorities in both places are investigating the incidents, both of which occurred early in the morning on Monday. The Associated Press reported citing the Portland Police Bureau that firefighters responded to the blaze at the ballot drop box and determined that an explosive device was placed in it. However, a fire suppressant was placed inside the ballot box, which prevented the explosive from doing much damage. The Election Director of Multnomah County, where this incident happened, Tim Scott, said that only three ballots were damaged and they were contacting those voters to obtain replacement ballots for them.Also read: Meanwhile, in Vancouver, footage was being broadcast on local television stations showing smoke coming out of a ballot box at a transit center. However, as opposed to the ballot drop box in Portland, the one in Vancouver also had a fire suppressant installed, but it was not effective, for some reason. Clark County auditor Greg Kimsey told the media that hundreds of ballots were lost on the fire. Meanwhile, photos showed firefighters pulling out burnt ballots from the box. Notably, both Washington and Portland are states that vote entirely by mail. The residents of both these cities receive ballots by mail a few days before the election and return them via mail to cast their vote for president.
