Former New Zealand medium-pacer Simon Doull has said that while one must believe that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will soon come out of their slump, a comeback becomes a lot harder when one is at the fag end of their career. Both Rohit and Kohli haven't had the best of times in the ongoing series against New Zealand and that has reflected in India's performance. In the three games till now, Kohli has scored just 93 runs while Rohit has got 91. This is after both men scored half-centuries in the second innings of the Bengaluru Test. Doull said that for a player, the going gets tough as they approach the end of their career. He added that while neither Rohit nor Kohli have dropped preparation levels, they are unable to reap rewards. "The later in your career you go, the less success you have or the less success you have as you get older. If you find it very, very tough mentally to get back to that position to put yourself through the hard rigours of the training, the preparation," Doull said while speaking on JioCinema. "I don't think any of these two guys have dropped off as far as that is concerned, but they're still not quite getting the rewards. They've been there, done it in the game. Of course, they can come back and do it again, but it just becomes a lot harder and that's what they have to be prepared to go through," Doull added. Chasing a paltry 147, Rohit was dismissed for 11, caught by Glenn Phillips off Matt Henry. Kohli, coming in with the score at 16/2, departed for 1, caught by Daryl Mitchell off Ajaz Patel. Kohli thus finishes the New Zealand series with 93 runs in three matches at a dismal average of 15.5.
