BAGESHWAR: Two youths were arrested for holding two minor girls captive and molesting them in Bageshwar district. A video of the incident was widely circulated on the internet.
Earlier, four youths dragged two minor girls into confinement over an 'old rivalry' and molested them. In the video, they are seen assaulting the girls.
They slapped the girls, verbally abused them, and forced them to perform squats (becoming a 'rooster'). Two of the accused are still at large.
The police have lodged a case under various sections of BNS as well as Pocso Act against Tanuj Gariya , Daksh Farswan, Yogesh Gariya , and Lucky Kathayat .
During interrogation, one of the accused said the two girls used to make 'disrespectful comments' about his girlfriend, due to which he assaulted them.
The court has denied the police's request for a 14-day remand of the two accused. Defence counsel Vinod Bhatt cited SC guidelines and highlighted technical discrepancies in police action, due to which the court refused the police remand.
SP Chandrashekhar R Ghodke said that police will present substantial evidence to ensure punishment for the accused.
