Bhilwara: Five fire brigades made about ten rounds to bring under control a massive fire that erupted in a cooking oil warehouse located in the agricultural market complex in Subhash Nagar police station area of Bhilwara city Sunday afternoon.

Since it was a Sunday, employees of Balaji Trading Company's oil warehouse at the agricultural market were on leave.

Traders in the vicinity saw flames emerging from the tin shed above the warehouse and alerted the fire department and Subhash Nagar police station. The tin shed was first dismantled with a loader before the five fire brigades could begin their work. It took three hours of hard work to control the fire, by which time goods worth about Rs 8o lakh were reduced to ashes.

Subhash Nagar police station in-charge Shivraj Gurjar said the cause of the fire is under investigation, but it is suspected to have been due to a short circuit. The presence of cooking oil inside the warehouse intensified the fire, with smoke and flames visible from two kilometres away, he said. tnn
