Jamshedpur: A 28-year-old labourer died, while his wife was injured when they were clearing debris from a dilapidated building, a portion of which collapsed on the duo, in the Sido Kanhu basti area under Burmamines police station on Sunday. The couple, along with three others, were removing bricks from the abandoned workers' quarter of a private company when a portion of the structure caved in, the police said. "The male labourer, Mohamed Munna, was injured when the bricks fell on him. He was taken to MGM hospital but died on the way," said Burmamines police station in-charge, Dilip Yadav.
His wife, Shazia Parveen (25), suffered minor injuries. No other labourer came under the debris. The labourers were hired by a private contractor to dismantle the abandoned quarter in an "unauthorised manner". Police found that the work was being done without necessary safety measures in place. The OC said tthe matter was being probed to ascertain the cause of the collapse of the porch.
