Karan Johar has addressed the negative reviews his recent production venture 'Nadaaniyan' received, which marked the debut of Saif Ali Khan’s son, Ibrahim Ali Khan. Speaking on recent occasions, he opened up about the harsh criticism directed at the film, its cast, and crew.
Karan about feeling terrible for negative reviews
Amidst the backlash, Karan shared how “terrible” he felt for Khushi Kapoor, Ibrahim, and director Shauna Gautam—who made her debut with this project—after witnessing the online bashing of so-called “nepo kids”.

In a recent conversation with Galatta Plus, Johar expressed his wish for a new poorly made film to be released soon, so that online hate for Nadaaniyan might subside.
“More than anything else, I was feeling terrible... and I know that I’m apparently not supposed to say this because I’m not supposed to show sympathy for Ibrahim, Khushi, and Shauna. Apparently, they’re not meant to have emotions because they come from privilege,” he said, commenting on how harshly the trio have been targeted.
“They also have fragile hearts, they are also taking their first steps in the industry, they too have emotions, and they are bound to feel terrible,” he added.
Karan says he attracts all the hate
Karan further stated that it's fair to say the film wasn't good once, but repeatedly criticising it directly can be hurtful. “I feel like this is because of me. I feel like all the hate is mine—it’s not even theirs. If I wasn’t producing the movie, I don’t think Khushi, Shauna, or Ibrahim would have received the amount of hate they did,” he added.
Karan admitted he feels a sense of accountability, as he believes he is the one attracting most of the criticism. He clarified that he doesn’t want to play the victim card, but he thinks much of the negativity stems from the jealousy people harbour towards him.
In addition to Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor, 'Nadaaniyan' also features Suniel Shetty, Mahima Chaudhry, Dia Mirza, and Jugal Hansraj.
