Actor Michael Pitt, who is widely known for his work in ‘Boardwalk Empire,’ ‘Dawson’s Creek,’ and more, has found himself in hot water. Reportedly, he is facing criminal charges for allegedly sexually abusing, assaulting, and choking his ex-girlfriend.
Reports suggest that these charges have come following the grand jury indictment, which was recently filed in New York.
Michael Pitt’s charges
In connection with the indictment, Michael Pitt was arrested on Friday, as reported by The Times. He was indicted on nine criminal counts, two of which state first-degree sexual abuse, two second-degree assault, and one second-degree strangulation. Further, two are on the counts of criminal sex acts, and the other two of attempted assault.
The action against him has been taken allegedly in connection with the incidents that occurred from April 2020 to August 2021. The first incident occurred in April 2020, when the actor allegedly forcibly touched the private area of the complainant. According to the legal documents, later the same year, in August, Pitt allegedly forced oral s*x on the woman, and assaulted her with a four-by-four plank of wood.
Less than a year later, in June 2021, he allegedly assaulted her with a cinderblock, and in August 2021, the indictment mentioned that the actor reportedly choked her.
Michael Pitt says he is not guilty
Following his arrest on Friday, the 44-year-old actor has pleaded not guilty to the charges. He also posted $100,000 bail but is scheduled to return to court in Brooklyn on June 17.
Further, the actor’s attorney, Jason Goldman, has mentioned that his client is innocent. In a statement given to the above-stated media portal, Jason said, “Unfortunately, we live in a world where somebody like Mr. Pitt — an accomplished professional who would never so much as contemplate these crimes — can be arrested on the uncorroborated word of an unreliable individual.”
He further quoted, “In reality, this baseless claim is suspiciously raised some four or five years after the alleged incident, from a time when the two parties were in a completely consensual relationship. We have already uncovered exonerating evidence, and this case will be dismissed.”
