Playing at Wankhede will be more special: Rohit Sharma

Send Push
MUMBAI: Still an active ODI and IPL player, a smiling Rohit Sharma , who announced his Test retirement last week, admitted that it will be a “special feeling” for him to play for India and Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium , where a stand was named after him on Friday.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) named a stand each at the Wankhede after Rohit, former India captain Ajit Wadekar , and ex-ICC, BCCI & MCA president Sharad Pawar .

It also named the newlybuilt MCA office lounge in memory of former MCA president Amol Kale, who passed away last year.

“This honour while I’m still playing makes it special. I’ve retired from two formats, but I’m still playing ODIs. So, it will be a surreal feeling on May 21 when I come here and play against Delhi Capitals, representing Mumbai Indians with a stand in my name. It will even get more special while representing the country, whenever that happens. It is a big honour to get it in front of so many people, especially my family, my mum, dad, my brother, his wife, and my wife, who are all present here,” Rohit said.
