BAHRAICH: A 22-year-old man died of a gunshot wound during a clash Sunday between two communities over loud music being played during immersion of Durga idols in the Mahsi area of UP's Bahraich district. Outrage over the killing led to vandalism and a blockade of the Bahraich-Sitapur highway.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath directed the administration to identify troublemakers. He said idol immersions must continue, assuring everyone of security. "Stringent action should be taken against individuals creating trouble during festivals. Such activities will not be tolerated," the CM said, adding: "It is imperative to engage in dialogue with religious organisations to ensure immersion process proceeds smoothly and on time."

The deceased was identified as Ramgopal Mishra, a resident of Rahua Mansoor village who got married four months ago. Two other people, Rahua Mansor and Sudhakar Tiwari, were injured in firing and stone-pelting. Police said the clash started after groups of revellers were allegedly attacked by people from another community who wanted the DJ music to be switched off.
