NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday chaired a meeting with defence minister Rajnath Singh , National Security Adviser Ajit Doval , the three service chiefs and the Chief of Defence Staff. This came as India-Pakistan tensions heated up at the borders with latter launching airstrikes and Indian Armed Forces intercepting it.
The meeting attempted to strategise over the future course of action. Earlier in the day, PM Modi engaged with military veterans, including former chiefs of the army, navy, and air force, to seek their insights and feedback on the evolving security situation.
Additionally, Union home minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting to assess the current situation along the borders and review security measures at airports nationwide amid heightened tensions.
The ongoing conflict with Pakistan has intensified, with Indian armed forces launching a strong and proportionate response to Pakistani attempts to target military installations on the night of May 8 and 9.
During a press briefing, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh revealed that Pakistan violated Indian airspace, deploying between 300 and 400 drones aimed at 36 strategic locations spanning from Leh to Sir Creek. She confirmed that the Indian military successfully intercepted and neutralized the aerial threats, preventing any significant damage to critical infrastructure.
