Send Push
AGARTALA: West Tripura district magistrate issued a prohibitory order , restricting public movement along 500 meters of India-Bangladesh border across Agartala and Mohanpur sub-divisions between 8 pm and 5 am from Sunday till December 19.

The hostile situation in Bangladesh over the last two months led to infiltration from across the border. Many Bangladeshi nationals were arrested in Tripura while illegally crossing the border or fleeing to other states of India. The anti-Indian activities have been increasing day by day in Bangladesh and it is seen as a threat to the state.

It is apprehended that miscreants taking advantage of a vast stretch of the Indo-Bangladesh border may cause law and order problems. It's necessary to restrict the movement of people along the international border, West Tripura DM Dr Vishal Kumar said, adding, "There are sufficient grounds for restricting movement during odd hours along the border to prevent danger to human life and disturbance of public tranquillity."

However, security forces, on-duty govt officials, and essential service providers have been exempted from the restriction. Any violation shall be liable to be prosecuted under section 223 of Bharatiya Naya Sanhita, Kumar stated.
