NEW DELHI: A car fell into a water-filled pothole outside Patna Junction, attracting a large crowd of onlookers. A video of the incident showed the vehicle stuck in the pit as people gathered around, once again raising questions over the poor state of roads in the city.
The vehicle’s wheels and underbody were coated in mud, with rainwater surrounding it. Dozens of locals stood along the edge of the broken stretch, looking down at the stranded car. The uneven, damaged surface around the crater clearly showed the neglect of road repairs in the area.
The car’s owner, Nitu Singh Choubey, said the incident could have turned fatal. “Everyone has been contacted. We spoke with the DM. This is a conspiracy to defame the government during the election period. This is all BUIDCO's fault. They created a pothole on the road and left it for 20 days. It's the rainy season. 5 people fell into it. If someone had lost their life, then who would take responsibility?”
She said that no safety measures had been put in place to warn commuters.
“There was no barricade. Even after my car fell, another person fell off his bike in the same pothole. Locals say someone or the other falls in this pothole every day,” she further added.
