PM Modi talks of one nation one election, but can't conduct BMC, MU polls: Sanjay Raut

NEW DELHI: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Saturday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the Maharashtra government postponed University of Mumbai senate elections for the second time.

Raut questioned the one nation one election bill, which was recently cleared by the cabinet, saying that how could the government talk of such a bill if it wasn't ready to conduct Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections, Mumbai University senate elections

" PM Modi talks about one nation one elections but the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections, Mumbai University senate elections are not being held," he said.

Raut also accused Shinde government of "buying votes," saying, "Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde only contests elections where he can buy votes with money."

"Wherever they can misuse ED and CBI, they conduct elections there," he added.

"There is a cowardly government in Maharashtra. They have postponed the Mumbai University senate elections twice...After they got the information that Shiva Sena (UBT) would win the elections, the government got scared and postponed the Mumbai University senate elections. They don't have the guts to fight the elections," he added.

A government resolution issued on Friday said that former students from IIT Bombay and the Institute of Chemical Technology in Matunga expressed concerns about the alarmingly low voter enrollment. In response, the government has established a one-member committee led by former Bombay high court judge KL Wadane.

Aditya Thackery also slammed the move calling it a "farce for the world to see – what they have done to democracy now."

"The cancellation of the MU senate election for graduates only shows how scared the BJP and illegal CM are of the Yuva Sena – a youth organisation. Mindhe's gaddar gang is so scared of elections that they order the cancellation a day before the voting day. This is the farce for the world to see – what they have done to democracy now. They fear elections and they talk of one nation, one poll. What a shame, the coward gaddars, scrapping elections," he had said.

The Election Commission had received flak from the opposition parties after it did not announce poll dates for Maharashtra.
