NEW DELHI: AIMIM has offered its support for INDIA bloc 's vice-presidential candidate Sudershan Reddy for the upcoming VP polls, Asaduddin Owaisi announced on Saturday.
"@TelanganaCMO spoke to me today and requested that we support Justice Sudershan Reddy as Vice President. @aimim_national will extend its support to Justice Reddy, a fellow Hyderabadi and a respected jurist. I also spoke to Justice Reddy and expressed our best wishes to him," Owaisi said in a post on X.
Reddy will face CP Radhakrishnan who is National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) VP candidate.
The vice-presidential election has been scheduled for September 9, following the sudden resignation of incumbent Jagdeep Dhankhar last month. The deadline for filing nominations is August 21.
As per Article 66(1) of the Constitution, the vice president is chosen by members of both Houses of Parliament through proportional representation and a secret ballot.
