Hassan Jaafar al-Qasir , the son-in-law of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah , was killed on Wednesday in an Israeli raid in Damascus, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The raid targeted an apartment in the Mazze district, resulting in the deaths of al-Qasir and another Lebanese individual.

An AFP source close to Hezbollah confirmed the reports saying, "Hassan Jaafar al-Qasir, the son-in-law of Hassan Nasrallah, was among two Lebanese victims of the Israeli raid which targeted an apartment in a residential building in the Mazze district of Damascus."

Last week, Hassan Nasrallah was reported killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut, as announced by the Israel Defence Forces ( IDF ). This attack occurred on Saturday, shortly after Israeli strikes targeted Hezbollah’s headquarters. IDF spokesperson Nadav Shoshani confirmed Nasrallah’s death, saying, “Hassan Nasrallah is dead,” suggesting that his influence in the region would be significantly diminished.

The situation in the region remains volatile as Israel intensifies its military operations on two fronts. On Wednesday, Israel conducted a ground incursion into southern Lebanon, resulting in the deaths of eight Israeli soldiers. Earlier, a 22-year-old captain became the first Israeli combat casualty in Lebanon since the beginning of the operation. In Gaza, Israeli airstrikes in Khan Younis reportedly killed at least 51 individuals, including women and children, amid ongoing hostilities that have lasted nearly a year.

This escalation follows a ballistic missile attack on Israel by Iran, which supports both Hezbollah and Hamas. The Israeli military warned of “repercussions” following the missile strikes. Late Wednesday, an Israeli airstrike struck a residential building near central Beirut, resulting in at least six fatalities and further injuries, with accusations that banned phosphorus munitions may have been used.
