Kamala Harris goes public with medical records, accuses Trump of withholding his

US vice president Kamala Harris is in excellent health , her doctor US Army physician Joshua R Simmons said in a letter and added that she possesses the physical and mental resiliency required to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency, including those as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief.

The White House released a letter in which Dr Simmons summarised details about the vice president's medical history .

The letter noted that she has seasonal allergies, hives, and nearsightedness. Her immunisations and preventive care recommendations are all current, and her most recent physical exam and routine bloodwork in April showed no cause for concern.

Harris wears contact lenses and takes a vitamin D3 supplement. She occasionally uses over-the-counter and prescription allergy medications, including Allegra, nasal spray, and eye drops.

Harris has never before released this level of detail about her medical history. She has mentioned on social media that her late mother, Shyamala Gopalan Harris, who died of colon cancer in 2009, worked as a breast cancer researcher, and has advocated for breast cancer screening.

In a letter, Dr Simmons said, "Vice President Harris’ family history is notable for a maternal history of colon cancer. She has no personal history of diabetes. high blood pressure, high cholesterol. cardiac disease. pulmonary disease, neurological disorders, cancer or osteoporosis. Her only surgery was a laparotomy with an incidental appendectomy for intussusception at age three."

The doctor described her diet as "very healthy" and noted that she does not use tobacco products and only drinks alcohol "occasionally and in moderation."

This strategy of Harris aims to target her opponent in the race to the White House, former US President and Republican Presidential nominee, Donald Trump .

Trump's campaign response

The Trump campaign swiftly responded to the Harris' healthcare statement but it was not his medical report.

The campaign called the vice president "wholly unqualified" to serve as president.

Trump campaign communications director Steven Cheung asserted that the former president "has maintained an extremely busy and active campaign schedule unlike any other in political history, whereas Kamala Harris has been unable to keep up with the demands of campaigning and reveals on a daily basis she is wholly unqualified to be President of the United States."

The communications director further claimed that Harris' schedule is "much lighter because, it is said, she does not have the stamina of President Trump."

Kamala Harris claims Donald Trump refuses to release his medical records

During an interaction with the press in North Carolina earlier, Harris criticised Trump for his failure to disclose his medical records, a practice that has been followed by nearly all presidential candidates in the current election cycle.

"So, today I release my medical records as has, I believe every candidate for president of the United States, except Donald Trump in this election cycle. And it's just a further example of his lack of transparency that on top of his unwillingness to debate again, his unwillingness to do an interview with '60 Minutes,' which again, is part of the norm of what anyone running for president of the United States does," ABC News quoted her as saying.

When questioned about Trump's fitness for the presidency, given that his medical records have not been made public, Harris declined to provide a medical assessment. However, she expressed her belief that the former president lacks the capability to effectively carry out the duties of the office.

He had refused to release his medical records during his first campaign in 2016, and despite promising multiple times to release his medical records in this race, he's not done so yet, ABC News reported.

Trump is currently 78 years old and will be 82 by the time the tenure of the soon-to-be-elected President ends.

Age was a significant concern for voters when President Joe Biden, 81, was seeking reelection, and his exit from the race in July allowed Democrats to focus on the biographical contrast they had previously downplayed.

Trump's campaign referred to a statement released by his personal physician, Bruce Aronwald, last year, as well as one from his former White House doctor, now Rep. Ronny Jackson, who examined Trump after an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania. However, Trump has not released his recent actual medical records, and past memos about his health have often used hyperbolic language.
